Core Research Areas

The WG has 28 members from the fields of quantum computation, quantum foundations, and theoretical computer science across academia and industry. Some of the core research areas of our members are:

Quantum Programming Languages

Developing convenient and expressive languages for describing quantum and mixed quantum/classical computations at a high level.

Formal Verification for Quantum Computation

Checking the correctness of quantum programs before they are run on hardware. Offering strong guarantees, e.g. of type safety, memory safety, or performance.

Compiling and Optimisation

Transforming high-level programs to low-level code for quantum hardware, while optimising time, memory, and fidelity of computations.

Foundations and Quantum Theory

Exploring foundational questions in quantum theory and phenomena, as well as features that make it unique in the space of all potential theories of the universe.

Quantum Algorithms, Complexity, and Advantage

Developing algorithms for quantum computers that (provably) outperform their classical counterparts.

Quantum Cryptography

Designing communication protocols whose security is enhanced or guaranteed by the unique information-theoretic features of quantum theory.
